Coin!

A card that stores all your credit/debit cards. They just released this and its up for preorder, me and my coworkers just ordered :).

These guys do a much better job at explaining it: site

Coin == Smaller Wallet

And why would I want ANY third party to have that information?? Usually I’m not a Debbie Downer and I’m open to new ideas and sharing info (sure, spy on me, I don’t give a shit), but when it comes to my money- nope.

from what i understand the phone app stores the cards. so they never get transmitted over the internet.

phone companies are in league with the NSA so that doesn’t work.

and the NSA can’t access the credit card companies? you should just stick to cash in that case.

Just an update on my hosting

I switched to Digital Ocean about 9 months ago, and have been pleasantly surprised with the value they provide. I was previously using Amazon EC2, and i thought they were pretty good but the problem was that their smallest instance cost about $43.50 a month ($0.06 an hour), and digital ocean was only charging $5 a month ($0.007 an hour). It took me about 5 minutes to start an instance and ssh into it (on amazon it took me much longer!).

I find myself using an instance per site due to how cheap it is, and if i ever need to test a setup it only takes about 90 seconds to spin up a new instance.

Pros

  • $10 promo
  • super easy setup
  • additional bandwidth costs $0.02 per GB vs amazons $0.12 per GB
  • instances are cheaper in general
  • all storage is SSD
  • easy to use API (developers.digitalocean.com)
  • active irc support (#DigitalOcean on Freenode)
  • they accept PayPal :)

Cons
  • all storage is SSD, and they do not let you just scale the storage so if you need 500GB of storage it’s probably not the best solution
  • they don’t let you clone the image locally (so you’re dependent on them)

Heres a $10 promo code so you can try out a small instance for 2 months free.

I released img42 almost 10 months ago on tumblr (an image hosting site), and i just wanted to update you guys.

The site was mainly created for myself to easily host images for a temporary amount of time when chatting with people. But while i was doing that i decided that other people must…

Am I the only one that can’t figure out how to make it work? I’m dragging and dropping images, and when I’m hovering over it with the image it says feed me and then I let go and then I’m back where I started?

I need to know a little more info in order to resolve this issue, what does this site say when you visit it: icanhazuseragent.com

img42: update

I released img42 almost 10 months ago on tumblr (an image hosting site), and i just wanted to update you guys.

The site was mainly created for myself to easily host images for a temporary amount of time when chatting with people. But while i was doing that i decided that other people must also share my frustration. So my target user was mainly instant messaging users that were having trouble sharing images.

Fast forward 10 months, and the top demographic on my site is adult chatrooms. This makes total sense because if you are sharing private photos the last thing you want is for the images to linger on the internet (think snapchat for the web). This wasn’t my goal, it was just what it has become.

I hope that further down the line people use it for standard uses, and not just for sharing their nudes.

Please try it out, and share it with your friends if you find it of any use.

Dropping Dropbox

A while back i made a post about dropbox, i would like to take it back. Dropbox is fine but what worries me is how the NSA is working with US based companies. It just seems stupid to keep all your data on a service thats out of your control.

Recently I decided to check out BitTorrent Sync, and I love it! It’s just as simple to setup, and the only limit of space shared is your own hardware. So there is no monthly fee if you want to go over the 2GB.

Try it out, at minimum just use your Dropbox folder as your BitTorrent Sync folder for a little while.

Vons, GET IT TOGETHER

So recently i made an online order for a few items, and the Vons website displayed the total as $75.18, but it actually was $101.75.

They even sent me an email with the total: http://img42.com/BoYa6

Vons can’t even show a total sum of numbers correctly… When i called their online department they said it was a known issue. Which means that they are knowingly lying to customers, and just hoping they don’t get called out on it. At minimum they should just remove the Estimated total line.

Just venting :P

I’m in bangkok right now :D

anyone want to meet up?

Re: img42

I wanted to follow up on my january project img42 (temporary image hosting).

I was looking at the database recently and noticed that there has been 20,000+ uploads, and If you google temporary image hosting its in the top three results (it just shows that you can still solve common problems and jump up the ranks).

Hopefully i saved a few people some time with the service :). I personally use it just for the paste from clipboard feature in chrome.

Share plz
