I wanted to follow up on my january project img42 (temporary image hosting).
I was looking at the database recently and noticed that there has been 20,000+ uploads, and If you google temporary image hosting its in the top three results (it just shows that you can still solve common problems and jump up the ranks).
Hopefully i saved a few people some time with the service :). I personally use it just for the paste from clipboard feature in chrome.
Share plz
This is a small little shoutout to the awesome free service called Dropbox.
They make it extremely easy to back up your files and keep multiple machines in sync with those files.
I put my working directory on dropbox so i can take advantage of their file history and sync. Recently i thought i lost 10 hours of work but luckily through dropbox’s history it was saved :).
You also can use it for more nerdy things like keeping your .bash_profile synced across multiple machines with a little symlink magic.
Sorry for the random post :P (if you use my link you get 2.5GB of free space).

One of my new years resolutions was to start coding little side projects again.
Last weekend i decided to solve an issue that i have ran into every day… Sharing images and screenshots easily (without having to install additional software). So i decided to create a little free service to tackle this issue.
http://img42.com - a basic drag and drop image hosting service (you can also copy/paste)
This is a very fresh project, if you guys have any issues with it please email me chadvscira@gmail.com
Ok so i have already received quite a few questions.
Q: Why does the image only live for 10 minutes
A: The default lifespan of an image is 10 minutes, but if you click on it you can cycle through the other options.
Q: I am seeing:”nothing to see here if you’re going to browse the internet like this”
A: You need to use a better browser
Q: I see “this is a mirage” ???
A: I fixed this. Now it tells you what to do.
Q: Copy and pasting isn’t working
A: Currently the only browser that actually supports this awesome feature is Chrome (im using v23)
Thanks again guys for trying it out :D, and don’t forget to tell your friends
the meaning of life :P

As for the matching i did state that they only matched groups of girls with groups of guys. It turns out that i was wrong and you can have two groups of girls or two groups of guys meet up with each other :).
Also someone asked me about cost (which i failed to mention before). They do not charge a monthly fee or anything! They only charge each person $20 and this includes a drink. By paying the small fee it ensures that everyone is serious about meeting up (it would suck to have no shows)

I heard a few friends from san francisco talking about this grouper thing, and it intrigued me. So the way it works is you get two other friends of the same sex to go out with you to meet three strangers of the opposite sex at a venue selected by grouper and you all get a round of drinks.
After convincing two of my friends to come with me we ended up at the venue awkwardly waiting for a few minutes (we were little nervous because it still felt a little creepy). When they showed up there was a little bit of awkward tension, but shortly after the waitress stepped in and asked what we would be drinking. We plowed through the first round pretty quickly (it was still a little tense). To my surprise we ended up getting a second round. At this point i was enjoying the company, but the venues bar was a bit lacking so we agreed to go to a sports bar one of the girls was talking up.
We walked about 2 blocks and there we were. It was a pretty cool spot that few of us knew about (a total plus). We continued to order some appetizers and another few rounds. All in all we had a pretty good time. I will definitely be doing another grouper.
One of the main things i like about grouper is that its their responsibility to pick the venue and the people (so you can blame them if anything is lacking).
